ββEach Spring at Ozhaawashkwaa Animikii-Bineshi Aki Onji Kinimaagae' Inun, student visitors and Aki Centre staff grow vegetable and herb transplants in the passive solar greenhouse. These edible plants are shared between the Aki Centre's Vegetable, Herb, and Three-Sisters Gardens, as well as with school-based gardens in Seven Oaks School Division. Each summer and fall, we collect seeds from some of the vegetables and herbs in our gardens to grow again next year and to distribute to others through our seed library.
Applicants of the Edible Garden Action Project will be supplied with a share of live plants (vegetables, herbs, flowers) to support their school's food growing initiative. In addition, we offer some seeds from our seed-saving gardens and bulk seed purchases to schools wishing to start their seeds independently (indoors or direct seeded outdoors).
As we have limited capacity in our greenhouse, we cannot guarantee we will provide you with 100% of your garden needs. We see this as a supplement or booster to get your garden growing strong, particularly with plants that require early start times indoors.
