Kim
Dalton is the Director of the Adult Education Centre and a part of the Seven
Oaks Indigenous Cultural Education Course leadership team. Prior to the AEC,
she was with Seven Oaks at Maples Collegiate as a learning support teacher, and
O. V. Jewitt Community School as a vice principal teacher. She has worked in
primary, secondary, and post-secondary education for over 20 years as an
educational assistant, teacher, administrator, and curriculum developer. Kim
has spent her career focusing on creating spaces that promote connection,
strong identity, and culturally-enhancing learning opportunities for Indigenous
students, as well as the skills and understandings needed by educators to
support these traditional and reconciliatory approaches to education. Her passion
for Indigenous education comes from her own experiences growing up and learning
about her mixed settler and Indigenous roots, her relationship to the
Indigenous community of Winnipeg, and the Eeyou teachings passed on to her in
her youth.
